The new platform advances beyond traditional passive monitoring by enabling active and self-directed control of space operations. It is built to enhance Europe's resilience to an expanding spectrum of risks that affect both orbital assets and ground-based critical infrastructure. These include signal jamming and spoofing, cyber intrusions, collisions with debris, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons, orbital surveillance, and other intrusive technologies.
"The rising geopolitical tensions, with their potential impact on Europe's critical space and ground infrastructure, underline the importance of space as a domain to be safeguarded," said Chiara Manfletti, CEO of Neuraspace. "With Neuraspace DEF, we aim to combine innovation and operational excellence to provide Europe with trusted capabilities that contribute to resilience, civil protection, and peacekeeping. Our mission is to be the reference European platform for autonomous space operations."
Neuraspace DEF integrates artificial intelligence, multi-source sensing, and automated analytics to deliver:
+ Real-time detection of non-cooperative or suspicious satellite activity;
+ Precision tracking of national and allied spacecraft for infrastructure protection;
+ Automatic alerts for unauthorized incursions into sensitive orbital zones;
+ Actionable data to inform tactical and operational military decisions;
+ Predictive monitoring to anticipate and mitigate escalating threats.
The system is designed to maintain satellite functionality even during communications loss, enabling autonomous evasive manoeuvres and coordinated defensive actions. It ensures protection against spoofing, jamming, and cyberattacks, while reducing reliance on external control systems.
"As space becomes ever more central to both security and daily life, the demand for advanced SDA solutions grows," Manfletti added. "Meeting this challenge requires operations that are more effective and also increasingly autonomous, to ensure safety and stability and for peacekeeping in and from orbit."
Neuraspace's defence activities include collaboration with the Portuguese Air Force and participation in EMISSARY - the EU's euro 158 million co-funded space situational awareness program. Within EMISSARY, Neuraspace contributes its SDA expertise and serves as Portugal's national coordinator.
