Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM), a global leader in satellite voice and data communications, has announced a strategic partnership with Syniverse, recognized as the world's most connected company, to accelerate the deployment of Iridium NTN DirectSM services through mobile network operators (MNOs) worldwide. This collaboration integrates Iridium NTN Direct into Syniverse's expansive global platform, allowing MNOs to effortlessly deliver continuous connectivity to their customers anywhere on the planet.

A recent GSMA 2025 Industry Survey reveals that 85% of MNOs planning to adopt non-terrestrial network (NTN) services are seeking Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) solutions that provide worldwide coverage. As part of 3GPP Release 19, Iridium NTN Direct is designed to support direct-to-device (D2D) and narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) messaging and SOS services, catering to a variety of sectors including agriculture, logistics, transportation, energy and utilities.

Iridium NTN Direct offers a comprehensive solution for MNOs, combining a fully owned and operated satellite constellation with seamless global coverage and coordinated mobile satellite services (MSS) spectrum. With a history of delivering reliable safety-of-life services, Iridium ensures that MNOs can trust their customers will remain connected.

"We're building the backbone of the global D2D movement, the right way and with the right partners as we prepare for on-air testing with MNOs and chipmakers in the coming months," said Iridium CEO Matt Desch. "The integration of Syniverse's system with the Iridium network will give MNOs a simple path to expand their footprint to the entire planet."

"Satellite networks are becoming a natural extension of the mobile ecosystem, and our role at Syniverse is to make that transition seamless," said Andrew Davies, Chief Executive Officer of Syniverse. "By integrating Iridium NTN Direct into the global mobile framework using standards-based, carrier-grade systems, Syniverse is simplifying deployment, ensuring consistency and security, and accelerating access to non-terrestrial connectivity."

For over three decades, Syniverse's expertise in mobile interoperability and clearing services has been critical in facilitating MNO adoption of satellite services. Their system supports seamless customer roaming, authentication and billing, connecting around 600 carriers in 170 countries and linking over 830 mobile operators through their global IPX backbone. Fully aligned with 3GPP standards, Syniverse enables rapid deployment and helps operators tap into new market opportunities with confidence.

Iridium NTN Direct stands out in the NTN and NB-IoT arena, delivering MNOs unmatched global coverage, reliability and capabilities. 3GPP Release 19 is anticipated to conclude by late 2025, with the first Iridium NTN Direct-connected devices expected in 2026.
