A Beginner's Guide to Online Casino Games

Online Casino games have become a popular addition to online casinos in the 21st century, with advanced mechanisms and visuals that combine for a fully immersive gaming experience. Casinos in the modern era have undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from strictly brick-and-mortar venues to digital online casinos, which players can access on a range of devices. Online casino games come in a wide variety, and gamers can play slot games to get started in the iGaming world as they are easy to learn, offer a variety of themes for players to play and are fun. Here is our beginner's guide to online casino games.

Popular Methods of Online Casino Games

Online casino games are full of variety and innovation, constantly introducing new play modes.

Online Slots

A popular online casino option is slots, which come in many forms-from traditional fruit machine games to the modern megaways variant, offering over 200,000 ways to land symbol combinations.

A typical online slot will feature 5 reels and 3 rows containing various symbols ranging from higher to lower values. These symbols can be matched along paylines to trigger prizes in play should they land in combination. Online slots typically include a variety of bonus features, commonly in the form of free spins and wild symbols. A typical wild bonus feature will be available in plays, replacing base symbols to create or extend matching combinations. A typical free spins bonus feature will be unlocked if players land 3+ scatter symbols, which will award players with a number of free spins using the bet stake of the triggering spin.

Online Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most iconic casino games, with a history dating back to the 1700s. It has evolved into a new game in online casinos, creating new play modes and increasing accessibility. New ways to play include playing against live dealers, which gives players the feel of a real casino through detailed visuals, or having players play against AI (Artificial Intelligence), which results in a faster-paced environment for players.

Blackjack is a card game in which players try to get a hand of cards that adds up to as close to 21 as possible. In blackjack, you will be playing against the dealer's hand. The hand each player is dealt is shown face up, whereas the dealer's cards are a mix of one face up and one face down. Players can hit and take another card or stand, keep their current hand, and hope to be closer to 21 than the dealer. If the player hits and exceeds 21, they will immediately lose the round. After the user decides to hit or stand, the dealer will flip their face-down card and be forced to hit until they hit 17 or more if their card total doesn't already exceed that. Similar to the user's hand, if the dealer's cards exceed 21, they will bust and lose.

Online Roulette

Like blackjack, roulette is an iconic casino game that has transitioned from in-house casino tables to online casinos. Due to its incredible stature and iconic wheel, online roulette has gained traction in the iGaming world among casino enthusiasts. Like Blackjack, online Roulette features live dealers and AI systems to improve accessibility, catering to those who value engagement with the dealers and those who value a faster-paced environment.

Roulette is a game played on a spinning wheel that features numbers 1-38 for a ball to land in. Each number will have separate segments categorised for players to place predictions on. These categories can be odd/even, red/black, dozens, columns, 1-18,19-36. The ball will be spun in the opposite direction from the way the wheel is spinning, and once the ball loses momentum and falls into a selected segment, that number and colour can trigger different returns for any related bets.

Luck Vs. Skill in Online Casinos

The online casino slot method is purely luck-based, with no strategy involved. Slots use a system called RNG (Random Number Generator), which helps decide the result of each spin. The RNG system generates thousands of numbers every second corresponding to specific symbols on the reels, determining the outcome of the slot's spin. Each spin will generate a different sequence of numbers, making for an unpredictable slot experience.

Like slots, each outcome of the spin of the roulette wheel is determined by luck. Players cannot predict when the ball will lose momentum and drop into a number, but they can apply more strategic insight than slots. Players can choose if they want a low-risk, low-reward experience or a high-risk, high-reward experience by choosing what category they hope for the ball to land in. Compared to slots, roulette allows players to control their wagers by giving them various categories to place wagers, compared to slots' singular spin button.

A skill-based game in an online casino is blackjack due to the decision-making factor involved. Players must analyse their hand and decide whether it is worth hitting or standing on their hand. Skilled blackjack players utilise their knowledge of cards and probability to make smarter decisions that will help them influence the game's outcome. Although blackjack requires more skill and strategy than any other games we have mentioned, the game is not purely decided by skill. Luck plays a part in blackjack in what cards are dealt to you and to the dealer, which is something no skill can change.
