
X-FOAM, produced in the United States, is based on X-MAT's silicon oxycarbide polymer-derived ceramic resin. The manufacturing process yields a foam structure that is both lightweight and strong, offering high insulation capacity and resistance to elevated temperatures. The material also provides stiffness and machinability, with reduced cost compared to traditional ceramics.
"This is a major step forward for high-temperature applications," said Josh McConkey, Commercialization Lead. "X-Foam delivers the strength and heat resistance demanded by aerospace and advanced engineering industries, but at a fraction of the cost of existing materials. It's tough, lightweight, machinable, and built to perform where other materials fail."
Applications for X-FOAM include aerospace insulation, molten metal filtering, hot gas filtration, furnace and pyrolysis insulation, and oven furniture.
The material can be machined after firing using CNC or manual tools, maintains precise edges, and displays resistance to vibrational stress.
