AI Surge: Foxconn Profit Climbs on Server Demand; Anthropic Plans $50 Billion Data Center Investment

Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn reported 17 percent growth in third-quarter net profit on Wednesday, as soaring demand for artificial intelligence fuels its expanding server business.

Foxconn, the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturer, has gone beyond assembling low-margin Apple iPhones to making AI servers for Nvidia, electric vehicles and robotics.

The Taiwanese firm has seen server sales skyrocket, reducing its dependency on smartphones.

"AI will undoubtedly remain the group's most important growth driver next year," Foxconn chairman Young Liu said.

The company aims "to become the most comprehensive AI server hardware supplier", he said.

Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, said net profit in the third quarter rose 17 percent year-on-year to NT$57.67 billion ($1.9 billion).

That beat an average forecast of NT$50.95 billion, according to a Bloomberg News survey of analysts.

AI-related spending is soaring worldwide and sky-high tech share valuations have fed concerns of an AI market bubble that could eventually burst, like the dot-com boom that imploded at the turn of the millennium.

Bloomberg said ahead of the Foxconn results that subdued consumer sentiment and unfavourable exchange rates may have weighed on smart consumer electronics and computing.

Cloud and networking products were expected to lead revenue gains on the back of strong demand for AI servers, as US tech giants pour billions of dollars into data centres.

AI startup Anthropic announces $50 bn data center investment
New York (AFP) Nov 12, 2025 - Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic announced Wednesday a $50 billion drive to build new data centers in a partnership with British venture Fluidstack.

The move, which would see construction of data centers initially in Texas and New York, marks the latest in a building frenzy surrounding generative AI.

"We're getting closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and help solve complex problems in ways that weren't possible before," Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in a press release.

"These sites will help us build more capable AI systems that can drive those breakthroughs, while creating American jobs."

Tech companies have been on a building spree for additional data centers, which provide the computing storage and processing power required by artificial intelligence.

Building the massive information warehouses takes an average of two years in the United States and requires copious amounts of energy to fuel the facilities.

Anthropic, which was launched in 2021 by former staff of OpenAI and is known for its "Claude" platform, said it plans initial sites in Texas and New York "with more sites to come."

Anthropic announced last month it was expanding its use of Google cloud computing and specialized chips in a deal worth tens of billions of dollars in response to surging demand.

Anthropic said Wednesday it serves more than 300,000 business customers.

Google announces $40 billion Texas investment to expand AI
Houston (AFP) Nov 14, 2025 - Google announced Friday a major $40 billion investment in Texas through 2027 to build new cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking the latest in a series of massive technology investments in the US state.

The investment will fund new data center campuses in northern Texas, adding to Google's presence in the Lone Star State that spans more than 15 years, the company said.

"Our latest investment in Texas is designed to not only support Texas' workforce and infrastructure, but to ensure the US retains the technical backbone to lead the world in AI," Google said in a blog post.

Google's announcement continues a trend of major technology companies making substantial investments in Texas.

The state's deregulated energy market and access to renewable energy sources have made it particularly attractive for data center development, even as energy demands of these facilities have raised concerns about grid stability, particularly following 2021 winter storms that caused widespread outages.

ChatGPT-maker OpenAI has made one of the most ambitious commitments through its $500 billion "Stargate" project, with its flagship data center campus in Abilene, Texas.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, has invested billions in data centers in Fort Worth, while Tesla relocated its headquarters to Austin in 2021 and built a major manufacturing facility there.

Oracle also moved its headquarters to Austin, and Samsung announced a $17 billion semiconductor plant in Taylor, Texas.

As part of its commitment, Google is establishing a $30 million Energy Impact Fund to aid energy initiatives in Texas -- as communities increasingly worry about the strain data centers put on local power supply.

Google pledged to bring new energy resources onto the grid and pay for costs associated with its operations while supporting community energy efficiency initiatives.

The company said in its latest earnings call that it expects 2025 capital expenditures of $91-$93 billion, reflecting massive investments in data centers and computing power to fulfill its AI ambitions.
