Europe's Martian Orbiter and Lander Separate Successfully
Mars Express spacecraft separated from its probe, Beagle 2, on Friday in a key operation to send the lander towards a landing on the Red Planet next Thursday. "They successfully separated," ESA's director of science, David Southwood, said, in a teleconference to the agency's headquarters from mission control in Darmstadt, Germany. If all goes well, Beagle 2 will glide through the thin Martian atmosphere and land on Dec 25. |
