This platform now enables rapid development and simplified IP licensing for customers seeking to create their own custom SoC designs with radiation-hardening and reliability techniques applied to both in-house and licensed circuit modules. "Our RH12 Storefront provides a turnkey solution for customers requiring radiation-hardened 12 nanometer integrated circuits," said Joe Dziezynski, director of Space Systems at BAE Systems. "This approach uses commercial foundry technology for space missions, qualifying not only the library components but also the process for how each of those components are designed into customer integrated circuits. Customers now have a one-stop-shop for state-of-the-art microelectronics performance to complete their missions in the harsh space environment."
RH12 Storefront features a broad set of IP blocks, ranging from basic logic to complex processing and interface elements. The 12 nanometer transistors offer greater performance with reduced power consumption, addressing the constraints present in space hardware. Manufacturing is conducted by GlobalFoundries, with IP contributions from companies such as Cadence, Rambus Inc., and Spectral Design and Test Inc. Additional evaluation is underway for analog-to-digital data conversion and in-field programmable gate array IP integrations.
BAE Systems is deploying RH12 technology in new processor and memory solutions, focusing on design, qualification, and production services tailored to a range of civil, commercial, and security space applications. Electronics based on this platform are built and qualified in Manassas, Virginia, a U.S. Department of War Category 1A Microelectronics Trusted Source. The initial product development kit is available to alpha users, with full IP qualification in progress.
