In a significant move to expand its satellite service offerings, MEASAT Global Berhad, Malaysia's leading satellite solutions provider, has entered into a strategic partnership with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX). As per the agreement finalized in December 2023, MEASAT has become the Official Authorised Reseller for SpaceX's Starlink Hardware and Services in the markets it serves.

This collaboration marks a notable expansion for MEASAT, a company renowned for its comprehensive satellite communication services within the Asia-Pacific region. By obtaining the status of Official Authorised Reseller, MEASAT solidifies its position as a one-stop provider, enhancing its portfolio to include the advanced non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite products offered by Starlink.

Ganendra Selvaraj, Chief Commercial Officer of MEASAT, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "MEASAT is delighted to work with Starlink as the Official Authorised Reseller in our markets. As the leading Malaysian satellite solutions provider, we have always been open to working with other entities to deliver the benefits of satellite technology to our customers which include government agencies, commercial enterprises and rural residents via a diverse portfolio of solutions to meet evolving needs."

The integration of Starlink's capabilities into MEASAT's existing services, like the CONNECTme NOW satellite broadband service, is expected to enhance high-speed internet services, particularly for the last 3% of Malaysians lacking terrestrial connections. This expansion is significant for MEASAT's clientele, especially in sectors like Oil and Gas, Maritime, and Enterprise, where high-availability services are crucial.

Starlink, known for its ambitious goal of providing high-speed internet globally through a constellation of satellites in non-geostationary orbit, stands to gain from MEASAT's established market presence and robust on-ground customer service infrastructure. This includes MEASAT's 24x7 helpdesk operated by in-country personnel, alongside onsite support and maintenance services.

"Our new status as an Official Authorised Reseller for Starlink marks a milestone in our ongoing growth journey, being the first non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite products offered through our on-ground network, as we continue exploring other potential NGSO solutions for our suite of services," added Selvaraj.

This partnership signifies a major step for both companies. For MEASAT, it represents an expansion into new technological frontiers with NGSO satellites, diversifying its satellite solutions portfolio. For SpaceX and its Starlink project, this move signifies tapping into MEASAT's well-established technical network and customer base, potentially increasing the reach and impact of its satellite internet services.
