The French military has ordered more than a dozen air defense radars from ThalesRaytheonSystems for coupling with NATO's Air Command and Control System.

The contract, for which no monetary figure was given, is for 12 fixed Ground Master 400 radars and four mobile tactical Ground Master 200 radars.

The Ground Master 400 is a long-range, digital 3D active electronically scanned array long-range radar for tracking aircraft and cruise missiles flying from low to high altitudes. The Ground Master 200 is a medium-range S band radar system.

ThalesRaytheonSystems said France has already acquired Ground Master radars for its military bases in Kourou, Nice and Lyon, which have been coupled with the NATO command and control system.

"ThalesRaytheonSystems is proud to be contributing with its Ground Master radars to the modernization of France's air surveillance capability, which is already underway with the delivery of these latest-generation radars for the bases in Kourou, Nice and Lyon," said Jerome Bendell, chief executive officer of ThalesRaytheonSystems France.

The radar contract also provides for through-life support of the radars and installation and civil engineering work for the 12 Ground Master 400 systems.
