A Supermarket of EO Data
McCall - May 31, 1999 - Earth Search Sciences is preparing for a mid-1999 launch of a direct-channel, multi-media imagery supermarket on the Internet that will have the capability to individually customize data packages for customers. The e-commerce content provider will be called TerraNet, Inc., and will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Earth Search Sciences, Inc. "We are committed to establishing a leadership position in our business as a source of valuable images that can be customized for a client's individual requirements yet can be sold over and over to thousands of different end users," said Larry Vance, founder and chairman of Earth Search Sciences, Inc. "E-commerce channels enable us to grow a base of diverse customers who can have easy access to the data content they need to make informed decisions," he added. Earth Search Sciences is a leading provider of hyperspectral remote sensing data captured and processed by its proprietary Probe-1 high-tech imaging system mounted aboard small aircraft. Earth Search's product advantages include detailed, objective and synoptic earth resource mapping products that are better, faster and cheaper than conventional mapping techniques. Combining this proprietary data position with information and products from other government and commercial data suppliers, and marketing this technology via a multi-faceted portal on the Internet, is the company's business objective for the new venture. In more than two years of remote sensing assignments across five continents, Vance said, ESSI's Probe-1 system has amassed a substantial database of value-added hyperspectral images for sale to technical users and other customers. "We believe Earth Search Sciences is the holder of some of the most valuable images available to commercial and government clients, and we intend to position our data sets as a central offering in an imagery supermarket that we believe will satisfy the technical needs of almost any user," Vance said. "This initiative will ensure Earth Search Sciences and TerraNet a leadership position globally in the remote sensing collection, processing, product creation and delivery business." Earth Search's Probe-1 advanced hyperspectral imaging instrument creates ultra high-resolution images of the earth's surface. Analysis of these images can determine the presence of target minerals and hydrocarbons in geologic formations or evidence of minerals from vegetal "signatures." These signatures include a variety of substances, such as environmental contaminants, pathfinders to minerals, oil and gas; agricultural indicators of fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide application effectiveness. U.S. government agencies and commercial clients have begun budgeting large expenditures for acquisition of data from specialized providers such as Earth Search Sciences, Inc. "Earth Search Sciences will be a key source of information and TerraNet, Inc., will be an important channel of access for those customers," Vance said.
