EADS Space Services Acquires 49% Of The London Satellite Exchange

EADS SPACE Services has purchased a 49% stake in London Satellite Exchange. The acquisition will strengthen EADS SPACE Services' one-stop-shop strategy of providing satellite capacity and services, including non-military capacity, to Government customers. EADS SPACE Services has been working jointly since two years with London Satellite Exchange, whose operational base is in Toulouse, notably on the ASTEL S contract for the French MOD.

    ESA Awards Contracts For Don Quijote Asteroid Impact Mission Designs

    ESA has awarded contracts to three industrial teams to carry out initial design studies for the agency's proposed mission to attempt to deflect the path of an asteroid. The mission, called Don Quijote, will comprise a primary spacecraft called Hildago, and an impactor called Sancho.

    X-Rays Reveal 250,000 Tonnes Of Water Released By Deep Impact

    Observations by the Swift spacecraft of the collision last July 4 between Comet Tempel 1 and a probe released by NASA's Deep Impact mission showed the comet grew brighter and brighter in X-ray light, in an outburst that lasted 12 days and released about 250,000 tons of water.

    A leading US programmer who helped develop Microsoft programmes has signed up for a mission to space in 2007, the Russian space agency said Monday. "A preliminary contract with (Charles) Simonyi was signed for spring 2007," Alexei Krasnov, an official from Roskosmos, was quoted by RIA-Novosti news agency as saying.

    Saturn's crater-scarred moon Rhea floats in the distance, peeking out from behind the giant planet's partly shadowed rings. This view looks upward from just beneath the ring plane. The far side of the rings is masked by Saturn's shadow. The north pole of Rhea is obscured by part of the A ring and the sharply defined F ring.
