Ortel, part of the Photonics Foundries group, has unveiled its latest innovation, the Model 1786 1550 nm Laser Module, designed to significantly improve optical sensing across a variety of applications. Engineered for Continuous Wavelength (CW) operation, this laser module is a key component for systems requiring coherent optical sources for accurate sensing in environments with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels.

Gyo Shinozaki, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Ortel, expressed enthusiasm about the launch: "The unveiling of the 1786 laser marks a significant milestone as Ortel's inaugural product release following our integration with Photonics Foundries. This achievement heralds the beginning of a series of groundbreaking technological developments our clients can anticipate."

Characterized by its narrow linewidth and versatile output power options, the 1786 laser achieves up to 300 KHz of linewidth. It is available in 40mW, 50mW, and 63mW variants to meet diverse design requirements. The device's packaging, a standard 14-pin butterfly package, incorporates an internal thermo-electric cooler (TEC) to maintain performance stability under varying temperature and humidity conditions. Meeting the Telcordia GR-468 standards, the 1786 laser ensures reliability and complements Ortel's 1790 model, known for its ultra-narrow linewidth below 100 KHz.

The introduction of the 1786 laser expands Ortel's portfolio for applications in LiDAR and optical sensing, catering to a wide spectrum of industrial needs, from material characterization and mechanical strain monitoring to terahertz spectroscopy, interferometry, and precise position and interference measurements.
