OneWeb Technologies unveils Astra PNT Solution for GPS-Denied Environments

OneWeb Technologies, Inc., a leader in secure commercial satellite communications (SATCOM) solutions, has announced the commercial availability of Astra, a new solution aimed at maintaining LEO SATCOM connectivity and operational performance when GPS or other global navigation satellite signals (GNSS) are unavailable or compromised. Astra became commercially available earlier this month.

The Astra solution is the first to offer a packaged positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solution that combines a software-defined outdoor receiver with access to A-PNT broadcast services. It enhances connectivity resilience by processing signals from GNSS and alternative sources across different frequency bands. This capability allows for continuous connectivity and situational awareness, even in challenging environments where adversaries may interfere with spectrum. Designed to align with the military's Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency (PACE) communications plan, Astra ensures mission success by offering resilient communication options.

"Astra is a game-changer for defense users operating in difficult environments," said Kevin Steen, President and CEO of Eutelsat America Corp. and OneWeb Technologies. "Astra A-PNT ensures that mission-critical operations can continue seamlessly -- enhancing both connectivity and situational performance -- by providing a reliable alternative to traditional GPS/GNSS."

Key features of Astra include:

- Pairing with non-GNSS A-PNT broadcast services like Iridium

- Identifying the best PNT source and providing output signals compatible with the standard GPS L1 interface

- Maintaining robust PNT resilience in GNSS-compromised environments worldwide

For further details about Astra and its capabilities, please contact OneWeb Technologies.

Mathematical Proof Confirms Five Satellites Required for Precise GPS Navigation
Berlin, Germany (SPX) Sep 11, 2024
GPS technology typically provides location accuracy within a few meters, but many of us have experienced moments where it drifts by hundreds of meters or produces entirely wrong coordinates. One contributing factor to this inaccuracy is the number and alignment of satellites in the receiver's line of sight. GPS satellites are equipped with precise atomic clocks and constantly broadcast their time and location through radio waves. A receiver, such as a smartphone, collects these signals from satell ... read more
