MDA Space Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a key partner in global space missions, has been awarded a contract by SWISSto12 to supply antenna systems for three HummingSat geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites. These satellites are part of the Inmarsat-8 program, which will deliver vital safety services and enhance emergency tracking capabilities.

Under this contract, MDA Space will design and build L-Band navigation antennas, utilizing its advanced products already in use for multiple global navigation and Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) missions. The company will also develop innovative packaging solutions tailored to the GEO SmallSat platform.

"MDA Space has an established reputation for leveraging our best-in-class design and manufacturing capabilities to support safety critical missions and we look forward to working with SWISSto12 to extend these capabilities," said Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space. "Our track record of delivering on multiple constellation missions to both government and commercial partners positions us to further capitalize on repeat orders in this growing GEO SmallSat market."

SWISSto12, a rapidly growing aerospace firm in Europe, was selected in 2023 to develop three Inmarsat-8 satellites, which will enhance network resilience and support Inmarsat's global L-band safety services.

This marks the second contract between MDA Space and SWISSto12 in the GEO SmallSat market.

The antennas will be manufactured, assembled, and tested at MDA Space's advanced satellite production facility in Montreal.

New antenna design could pave the way for advanced 6G satellite networks
Sydney, Australia (SPX) Aug 22, 2024
A team of researchers from the Beijing Institute of Technology has introduced an innovative design method for active multi-beam antennas, which could be a key component in future 6G satellite networks. This new approach seeks to address the significant limitations of traditional multi-beam antenna technologies, particularly in meeting the demanding requirements of Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) systems. Traditional multi-beam antennas in VHTS systems typically operate in the Ka-band and are ... read more
