The Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA) has announced a strategic partnership with GSMA, the global organization representing mobile operators, to enhance mobile satellite communications and drive innovations in global mobile connectivity for both consumers and enterprises. This collaboration aims to integrate Direct-to-Device (D2D) and Internet of Things (IoT) services using Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) satellites, aligned with the latest 3GPP standards.

MSSA and GSMA are working to develop interoperable systems that connect both terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, laying the groundwork for a new level of global connectivity. The goal is to create more efficient and scalable satellite communications solutions, enabling cost-effective deployment worldwide. This collaboration also seeks to enhance mobile services by integrating satellite capabilities with cellular networks.

Central to this partnership is the ambition to shape the future of mobile connectivity. MSSA and GSMA will leverage their combined expertise to pioneer new standards for network design and operation, supporting sustainable and scalable solutions across the mobile ecosystem. By enabling economies of scale, the alliance aims to ensure these innovations benefit the entire global mobile network.

Mark Dankberg, Chairman of MSSA, emphasized the importance of the partnership: "This alliance with GSMA represents a bold leap forward in the evolution of mobile connectivity. We are joining forces to push the limits of what's possible, bringing the power of satellite technology to millions of users globally. This is more than a partnership - it's a revolution in how the world connects."

Alex Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer of GSMA, added: "Our collaboration with MSSA is based on the shared objective of reaching new benchmarks for global connectivity. By combining our strengths, we are laying the foundation for a future where satellite and terrestrial networks are fully integrated to provide unparalleled service and coverage."
