This MOU is a pivotal development for Canada's growing role in global space activities, enhancing Spaceport Nova Scotia's position as a premier site for orbital launches. The recent conclusion of a Technology Safeguards Agreement (TSA) between Canada and the USA further supports this, setting the stage for a robust space industry with operations based at Spaceport Nova Scotia.
Maritime Launch Services is targeting its first orbital launch from the spaceport in 2026.
According to the MOU, Maritime Launch will provide the essential infrastructure and regulatory support at the launch site, while the partner launch operator will supply the launch vehicle and specialized support equipment.
This agreement builds on a Letter of Intent signed in 2023 and serves as the foundation for a binding launch service agreement. Both organizations are dedicated to closely collaborating to ensure the successful execution of this agreement, contributing to the expansion of the global space industry.
During the current construction phase, Maritime Launch will accommodate its first two small launch vehicle clients at Spaceport Nova Scotia, integrating the launch provider's vehicles and support systems into the spaceport's operations.
Key Components of the Agreement:
1: Pathfinder Launch: The initial collaboration will focus on executing the first orbital launch from Spaceport Nova Scotia.
2: Commercial Operations: Following the successful pathfinder mission, the partnership will advance to multi-year, multi-launch operations under a commercial site lease model.
3: Infrastructure and Safety: Maritime Launch will manage public safety, mission support, and coordination with federal authorities for restricted airspace and waterways. The partnership's mobile launch vehicle capability will utilize temporary or mobile infrastructure for initial launches.
Stephen Matier, President and CEO of Maritime Launch Services, commented, "This partnership is a significant step forward for Spaceport Nova Scotia. It not only highlights our commitment to welcoming international space companies to Canada but also secures a leading launch vehicle for orbital missions from Spaceport Nova Scotia." Matier added, "This partnership will also demonstrate our capabilities as a launch site, capable of accommodating diverse launch systems for our client needs. The partnership allows us to deliver launch capability towards the current pent-up demand from the satellite client marketplace."
As the MOU progresses, Maritime Launch Services plans to release additional information regarding this international collaboration in the coming months.
