This achievement denotes a significant advancement in China's utilization of space-to-ground high-speed laser communications technology. According to the company, this will pave the way for the transition from traditional microwave communications to laser-based systems.
Changguang's flagship offering, the Jilin-1 satellite constellation, holds the distinction of being China's inaugural domestic remote-sensing satellite constellation created for commercial purposes. The Jilin-1 satellites provide ultra-high-definition imaging capabilities and support a variety of remote sensing information services, including forest fire warnings, combating desertification, offshore rescue operations, and ocean preservation.
As the spatio-temporal resolution of the Jilin-1 constellation continues to improve, the volume of data it produces has surged. In response to the limitations of traditional microwave satellite-based data transmission, particularly when dealing with the substantial data output of the Jilin-1, Changguang initiated their recent experiment.
Chen Shanbo, chief designer of the Jilin-1 MF02A04 satellite, elaborated on the success of the experiment, stating that the company's researchers have achieved numerous breakthroughs on key technologies. These advancements have ensured the ability to capture clear images from optical payloads while maintaining high standards of laser pointing accuracy and stability. "The optical load image data transmitted successfully during the test showed good quality after analysis and can meet the requirements of business applications with high standards," Chen explained.
