Axelspace Unveils AxelLiner Laboratory for In-orbit Space Component Demonstrations

Axelspace Corporation has introduced AxelLiner Laboratory (AL Lab), an expansion of its AxelLiner service initiated in 2022. AL Lab is designed for the in-orbit demonstration of space components, with sales launching soon.

A new memorandum was also signed between Axelspace and ASPINA Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd., a partner since 2020 in developing a reaction wheel for microsatellites. The companies plan to launch and demonstrate the wheel in 2026, marking the first use of AL Lab.

Responding to the increasing demand for in-orbit demonstrations
Since introducing AxelLiner in 2022, Axelspace has been gearing up for a full-scale service launch. Efforts included developing a versatile bus system for microsatellites, forming the Spacecraft Manufacturing Alliance for mass production, and creating AxelLiner Terminal, a software system enhancing customer experiences.

High expectations have surrounded AxelLiner's one-stop microsatellite service, allowing customers to achieve their space missions more quickly. Communications with various industry players revealed significant interest from companies developing space components and mission equipment. To address this interest, Axelspace began researching a new AxelLiner service focused on in-orbit demonstrations.

The Japanese government aims to establish the Space Strategic Fund this year, providing 1 trillion yen in support over the next decade. One objective is developing and demonstrating satellite parts and components, likely increasing the demand for early-phase in-orbit demonstration services.

To address these challenges, Axelspace developed a service to meet specific needs, leveraging the rapid development time and mass-production capabilities of AxelLiner.

AL Lab can test components and mission equipment in space and be used for entertainment or corporate and product promotions. The original service concept will be renamed "AxelLiner Professional (AL Pro)," with preparations ongoing for a full-scale launch.
