Indian Rockets To Soon Use Atmospheric Oxygen As Fuel
Bangalore, India (SPX) May 31, 2010
In an attempt to make its rockets lighter and carry heavier satellites, the Indian space agency is planning to flight test by the end of this year its own air-breathing engine that will use atmospheric oxygen as fuel. Air-breathing engines use atmospheric oxygen and burn it with the stored on-board fuel to generate the onward thrust. Conventional rockets carry both oxygen and chemical fuel on board. The first retired F-16 Falcon arrived at Boeing's Cecil Field facility in Jacksonville on April 22 to begin conversion into a QF-16 aerial drone. The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season may be one of the worst on record, US officials warned Thursday, amid fears it could deepen an oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico and bring new misery to Haiti.
