Shuttle Discovery passes up first landing try Tuesday
Houston, Texas (AFP) April 20, 2010
The space shuttle Discovery passed up the first opportunity to land in Florida early Tuesday because of fog and rain showers at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA's Mission Control is now looking to a possible landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California, at 9:01 am (1301 GMT), where favorable weather was forecast, after passing up the 7:34 am (1134 GMT) Florida touchdown. NASA will launch the first human-like robot to space later this year to become a permanent resident of the International Space Station. Robonaut 2, or R2, was developed jointly by NASA and General Motors under a cooperative agreement to develop a robotic assistant that can work alongside humans, whether they are astronauts in space or workers at GM manufacturing plants on Earth.
