Salty, liquid water has been detected on a leg of the Mars Phoenix Lander. This is the first time liquid water has been detected and photographed outside the Earth. "A large number of independent physical and thermodynamical evidence shows that saline water may actually be common on Mars," said Nilton Renno - a co-investigator on the Phoenix mission. Junk threat averted, Discovery shuttle docks with space station

The shuttle Discovery sped towards a Tuesday rendezvous with the International Space Station (ISS) after NASA concluded the orbiting laboratory was no longer at risk from a piece of space junk that had put astronauts on high alert. US and Russian experts Monday had raised the prospect of moving the 100-billion-dollar station to dodge a 10-centimeter (4-inch) piece of debris that raised alarm.
