Chinese Spacemen To Reach Moon By 2022

China has possessed the technical capacity to send spacemen to the moon in 15 years, a leading rocket expert said on Tuesday. Huang Chunping, the chief launch vehicle designer of the country's manned space flight program, told Xinhua that China is well capable to send manned spacecraft to the moon in 15 years given an adequate funding and punctual project launching.

SMART-1 has investigated lunar areas at the edge of Luna Incognita. This area near the lunar poles can be used for lunar science studies, or even to prepare for human bases on the Moon and on Mars. Mankind did not see the land called Luna Incognita, until the first probes sent images of the lunar farside.

China To Launch Lunar Satellite Probe This Year

China will launch its first lunar probe this year and the nation's fledgling space programme will have the ability to land a man on the moon within 15 years, state press reported Tuesday. The "Chang'e I" lunar probe will be launched later this year aboard a Long March 3-A carrier rocket, Huang Chunping, the former head of rocket science at China's manned space programme, told Xinhua news agency.

ESA Award SSTL Contract To Build A Second GIOVE-A

The European Space Agency (ESA) awarded a contract to Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL) to build a second satellite for the Galileo satellite navigation system. Named GIOVE-A2, the new satellite will be based on the company's proven GIOVE-A medium Earth orbit satellite technology.

Intelsat has announced that Telenor Satellite Services expanded a multi-year contract with Intelsat to include transmission services on three different spacecraft in C- and Ku-band. The capacity is being used for Telenor's Sealink maritime high-speed data communications solution through its Eik Teleport in Norway.

NSS-10 And NSS-11 Join SES New Skies Fleet

SES New Skies has reported that the SES satellites AMC-12/ASTRA 4A and AAP-1 have been transferred to SES New Skies which will now be responsible for all customer and capacity management activities associated with these satellites. The spacecraft have subsequently been renamed NSS-10 and NSS-11.
