SNC gets contract modification for Thor II counter-IED device

A counter-measure system to defeat radio-controlled improvised explosive devices will continue to be supplied to the U.S. Military by Sierra Nevada Corporation.

The production and support of Thor II is the result of the exercise of a $29 million contract option by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division.

The original indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for SNC's Thor II, or AN/PLT-5 Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device system, was part of a 2009 award in support of Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel.

Thor II can be carried in a backpack and jams radio signals used to explode a device.
