Opportunity has completed its super-high-resolution imaging and other remote sensing operations from the base of "Burns Cliff," collecting more than 985 megabits of telemetry. Due to the large number of observations, the data management team has been working hard to manage available memory. Opportunity has now begun its journey out of "Endurance Crater."

Russia To Launch Indonesian Satellite

Russia will put an Indonesian satellite into orbit around the Earth in 2007 using an air-launch system, local media reported Tuesday. The system offered by the Russian Air Launch Aerospace Corporation includes an Antonov An-124-100AL carrier aircraft as a flying launch pad, a Polyot two-stage launch vehicle and an upper stage booster.

The low profile buoys are designed to be stealthy to avoid loss, but can easily be retrieved through the use of high- accuracy GPS positioning, two-way communications (via the Inmarsat D+ satellite network), and a user-activated high intensity recovery beacon.

The contract is to replace the existing cinetheodolite constellation at the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment, in Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada, with a modern, automated tracking system capable of testing modern ammunition such as precision guided munitions.
