The telecom equipment market is breaking out of its prolonged slump, clearing the way for a number of potentially large initial public offerings (IPOs) and an increase in strategic industry mergers and acquisitions, according to a major new report released by Heavy Reading, the market research division of Light Reading Inc.

  • Astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Institute today unveiled the deepest portrait of the visible universe ever achieved by humankind. Called the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, the million-second-long exposure reveals the first galaxies to emerge from the so-called "dark ages," the time shortly after the big bang when the first stars reheated the cold, dark universe.

    Soon after testing another long-range missile Tuesday, Pakistan announced it does not intend to roll back its nuclear program. The test "reflects Pakistan's resolve to maintain minimum credible deterrence as the cornerstone of its security plan," said a statement issued by the army press office. The test also eliminates "apprehensions of a rollback" of Pakistan's nuclear program, the statement said.
