Delta 2 Launches Contour On Deep Space Comet Mission

Contour's Delta 2 taxi to orbit performed perfectly
KSC - July 3, 2002
A Boeing Delta 2 rocket has launched NASA's deep space comet explorer Contour. Launch was at 2.47am EDT (06:47 GMT). Contour will spend the next 25 days in orbit ahead of it's deep space trajectory insertion Aug 15. Contour's first comet flyby will be Encke on Nov 12, 2003.

Global Hawk UAV Completes 1,000 Hours Of Combat Support

Northrop Grumman said Friday that its RQ-4A Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance system reached 1,000 combat flight hours June 15 in service with the U.S. Air Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Flying overseas with the Air Force since last fall. Global Hawk is now in engineering and manufacturing development and low-rate initial production.

ESA Highlights Contributions Of Space Imagery To Disaster Relief

Speaking at last week's annual meeting of an international association working to integrate information technologies for disaster-relief efforts, Stephen Briggs, head of the Earth observation applications for the European Space Agency (ESA), pointed to the Agency's satellite imagery and other programmes as ways space technology can be used to mitigate the effects of natural and man-made disasters.

Northrop Grumman Corporation and TRW Inc. jointly announced early Monday that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement. The combination will position Northrop Grumman as the nation's second largest defense contractor with projected annual revenues of more than $26 billion and approximately 123,000 employees.
