ViaSat to Supply Mobile VSAT Systems for Joint Combat Camera

ViaSat Inc. has received a subcontract for approximately $1.5 million from VSE Corporation for mobile, rapid-deploy LINKWAY satellite terminals. Using the terminals, military camera crews will be able to quickly and securely transmit video and still imagery from forward military areas to headquarters and command locations in the field, as well as back to the U.S. ViaSat will also provide system engineering, integration, installation services, and training in the U.S. and abroad.

This network features LINKWAY.IP VSAT terminals, self-pointing antennas, and special power systems to enable users to rapidly set up and operate the system in any location. The complete system will include video capture equipment to enable real-time encoding of video, plus video editing capability as well.

LINKWAY terminals include Dynamic Bandwidth Resource Allocation technology that uses satellite bandwidth more efficiently by allowing bandwidth sharing among remote stations and adjusting the size of the satellite channel to match data traffic.

The LINKWAY.IP VSAT system features hardware specifically streamlined for Internet Protocol (IP) networking to lower the cost of IP networks and applications such as ISP point of presence (PoP) connections; Web distribution, push, and data caching; voice over IP; and data and video multicasting.

VSE Corporation, based in Alexandria, Virginia provides diversified services to the engineering, energy and environment, defense, and homeland security markets from more than 15 locations across the United States and around the world.

ViaSat has locations in Carlsbad, CA, and Norcross, GA, along with its Comsat Laboratories division based in Clarksburg, MD. Additional field offices are located in Boston, MA and the Washington DC/Baltimore area.
