NH-90 helicopters of the Royal Netherlands Air Force are being outfitted with self-defense equipment from Terma of Denmark.

Terma reports that under a recently received contract its advanced modular aircraft survivability, or MASE, pod will be supplied but no figures as to the number of units and their price were disclosed.

The MASE Pod solution features its ALQ-213 electronic warfare management system, missile warning sensors, and chaff/flare dispenser modules.

"Having collaborated with the RNLAF for decades, we are very pleased being selected to provide the NH-90 platform with self-protection equipment," said Jesper Petersen, vice president, Airborne Applications, Terma Defense & Security.

"This strongly indicates that RNLAF have confidence in our solutions. This applies to system performance, the entire process, and the collaboration between the air force and Terma."

Terma's MASE system was originally developed in 2003 for use on AH-64D Apache helicopters. Due to its modularity it was later adapted for use on other aircraft. The system's most sophisticated version -- CHASE -- is operated on CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
