SDV pursues its commitments towards a more eco-friendly supply chain by announcing its very-first hybrid shuttle from its "Green Hub" in order to serve the fashion and luxury industry in Singapore downtown. "The new hybrid shuttle is a key milestone under the company's commitment to design innovative and cleaner supply chain solutions two years after the opening of our "Green Hub", the first warehouse in Singapore to be Green Mark Platinum certified(1) and the largest logistics center in Asia to be under LEED Gold Certification(2)", said Fabien Giordano, Managing Director of SDV Singapore. The Mitsubishi Canter Eco Hybrid Euro 5 was selected to meet the autonomy energy objectives and the loading capacity by combining a highly efficient diesel engine with an electric motor to serve the iconic retail stores in Singapore Marina Bay and Orchard Road. The vehicle will cover nearly 26,000 kilometers per year. Powered by an electric motor up to speeds of around 50 km/hour, the diesel engine then takes over, perfectly suited for the urban context of Singapore. The kinetic energy produced during the braking action is then converted to electric power, granting greater autonomy to the truck. Consequently, it reduces the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions up to 23%. It also reduces suspended particles and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by as much as 30%, in comparison to a conventional diesel-powered truck. In addition to reducing atmospheric emissions, the quality of sound environment is significantly improved for the users' comfort in both loading and unloading bays. The hybrid shuttle adds to the already existing one in service in Germany. This new initiative is fully in line with the SDV SAVE PROGRAM, a 3-step environmental solution tailored to clients. It offers clients the opportunity to measure the carbon footprint of their shipments, to reduce CO2 emissions through the conception of eco-solutions, while optimizing the global performance of the supply chain and to support sustainable development initiatives through voluntary carbon offsetting projects around the world as well. The slogan displayed on the truck, "Feel the Change", reflects the external demand for cleaner and more responsible deliveries towards the environment to fight global warming as well as the atmospheric pollution in urban centers. The new SDV hybrid shuttle is a tangible and visible action in the logistics industry supporting the government of Singapore and its vision to promote more efficient low emitting transport systems while improving air quality in the city-state. "Pioneering hybrid delivery in Singapore - we believe this initiative will influence industrial policy towards low-emitting transport solutions. The shuttle, certainly not the last one, will benefit our customers and our staff to contribute to a better living environment", added Giordano. (1) Green Mark Platinum accreditation delivered by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore (2) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification developed by the US Green Building Council.
