Raytheon Wins Navy SatCom Upgrade

Raytheon has received a $10.1 million contract for the initial production of 32 Navy Extremely High Frequency (EHF) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Program terminals Medium Data Rate (NESP MDR) communications upgrade kits. The contract, awarded by the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, San Diego, Calif., includes options for an additional 109 systems, training and life cycle support valued at up to $105 million.
The upgrades will be installed on various Navy combatant ships,
submarines and shore stations worldwide. The MDR upgrades will enable
higher data transmission rates of secure, multimedia, command and
control information for real time targeting, strike and fire support
among cooperating ships, aircraft and shore forces.
This key EHF MDR SATCOM award to Raytheon Systems Company adds to
other ongoing Navy SATCOM efforts that include the AN/WSC-6; the
Global Broadcast System (GBS) Shipboard Antenna System; and, the Navy
EHF SATCOM program.
C. Dale Reis, executive vice president and general manager of
Raytheon Systems Company's Command, Control, Communications (C3)
business segment, said, `"This enhancement of the Navy's EHF SATCOM
System provides the U.S. Naval Fleet and the U.S. Joint Forces
operations the critical information network superiority needed to
fulfill their U.S. global force projections and peace keeping
missions. The EHF MDR SATCOM award dovetails well with Raytheon's
SATCOM technology leadership and our commercial off-the-shelf open
architecture Versa Module Europe (VME)-based electronics product
lines."

Advanced Communication Systems, Inc.
announced that it has acquired all of the outstanding shares of Semcor, Inc, a military space contractor for approximately $41 million, mostly in cash, and additional earn-out payments upon achievement of certain financial goals in the next 18 months. ACS expects the acquisition to be accretive to earnings.
