In a significant stride towards the global space arena, Mongolia marked its entry by launching its inaugural satellites, catalyzing an era of innovation and amplifying the potential for investment in its evolving tech domain.

On 4th March 2023, Space-X's Falcon-9 rocket, lifting off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, carried two Mongolian low-earth-orbit nano satellites, Ondosat-Owl-1 and Ondosat-Owl-2, into space. These satellites, developed by the Mongolian enterprise Ondo Space, have passed the stringent space environmental testing at Japan's Kyushu Institute of Technology.

Further bolstering its space sector, the Mongolian government has announced the establishment of a 'space sandbox'. This initiative aims to nurture the space industry's growth by offering regulatory and policy support for local companies engaged in testing and research and development activities, leveraging Mongolia's enhanced connectivity and skilled workforce.

This advancement not only solidifies Mongolia's stance as a lucrative zone for investment and research in the space and technology arenas but also reiterates its ambition to be at the forefront of global space technology innovation.

Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene remarked on this historical feat, recalling Mongolia's contribution to space exploration since 1981 and emphasizing the current milestone as a pivotal start towards nurturing a dynamic space industry within the nation. He highlighted the government's vision to position Mongolia as a central hub for space technology innovation and research globally.

Echoing the Prime Minister's sentiments, Mongolia's Minister of Digital Development and Communications, Mr. Uchral Nyam-Osor, elaborated on the potential Mongolia holds for the burgeoning sector. He outlined the government's initiative to introduce a regulatory 'sandbox' within a comprehensive legislative framework to ease the business environment for emerging technologies, aiming to foster growth and innovation across vital domains including the space economy and digital advancements.

Ondo Space's Founder and President, Mr. Anar Chinbaatar, shared his enthusiasm for this landmark achievement, attributing the successful satellite launch to the combined efforts of the Ondo Space team and the supportive stance of the Mongolian government in enhancing the country's space technology capabilities.

The ongoing discussions between the Mongolian Government and SpaceX regarding the launch of Mongolia's first high-orbit national satellite, being constructed by Thales Alenia Space, signify another ambitious step in Mongolia's extensive program to cultivate a domestic space economy. This effort aligns with the government's Vision 2050 and New Recovery Policy, aiming to digitalize Mongolia and foster peaceful space-related collaborations with G7 countries.
