Iridium Secures Contract to Enhance FAA Network Resilience with L3Harris

Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) has entered into a five-year commercial agreement with L3Harris Technologies [NYSE: LHX] to provide the Iridium Satellite Time and Location (STL) service. This service will be deployed across over thirty L3Harris-operated network backbone nodes and numerous Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facilities nationwide.

L3Harris manages a proprietary nationwide network for the FAA, facilitating voice, data, and video communications critical to National Airspace System operations and support. The network's need for precise timing synchronization, vital for supporting various critical infrastructure applications, is served by the Iridium STL service. This service significantly reduces reliance on GPS for primary network timing.

Additionally, the solution incorporates compact devices from Adtran's Oscilloquartz division, which are designed to receive Iridium STL signals, enhancing the network's timing synchronization capabilities across the United States.

The increasing demand for real-time operations in today's communication networks, which are highly sensitive to timing disruptions, underscores the need for robust timing solutions. This is crucial for tasks like maintaining synchronized database replications across distributed architectures.

Christina Riley, vice president and general manager, Commercial Resilient Time and Location at Iridium, emphasized the reliability of the STL service, stating, "STL solutions provide a cost-effective and resilient option in critical infrastructure settings where GPS may be compromised, ensuring continuous, high-performance operations for L3Harris and the FAA."
