Parsippany NJ (SPX) Mar 24, 2006 DRS Technologies has announced that it has received new orders valued at approximately $11 million from the U.S. Air Force to support Tunner 60K Cargo Loader/Transporters deployed at U.S. military bases worldwide. The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contracts were awarded to DRS by the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. For these orders, DRS will provide logistics support, including materials management, sustaining engineering and spare parts support, for more than 300 Air Force Tunners at 78 air bases around the globe. The materials management portion of the contracts will provide parts to the field in a timely manner to maintain Tunner System Support Availability (TSSA), while the infrastructure portion of the materials management effort will provide the buildings and personnel necessary to make parts support possible. Work for these orders will be performed by the company's DRS Systems & Electronics unit in St. Louis, Missouri, and is expected to continue through January 2007. "Our worldwide logistics services for the Tunner are integral to the U.S. military's mission requirements to support the rapid deployment of forces and equipment to multiple locations around the world," said Daniel A. Rodrigues, president of DRS's Sustainment Systems & Services Group. "Continued life-cycle management efforts like these exemplify DRS's commitment to make the Tunner one of America's most dependable and functional pieces of large military support equipment." The Tunner is designed and produced by DRS. It is a versatile, mobile vehicle with a unit load capacity of 30 tons. Using the Tunner, military transport aircraft, such as the C-17 Globemaster and C-5 Galaxy, and large, commercial cargo aircraft can be loaded and unloaded in a fraction of the time previously required, dramatically improving the efficiency and response time of the military's deployment operations. Tunners are being used daily to support the war on terrorism and to aid in humanitarian relief efforts in potentially hostile areas, as well as areas stricken by natural disasters.
