Melville NY (SPX) Jan 11, 2005
Comtech Telecommunications' subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was recently awarded a $2.8 million contract to provide satellite communications equipment to a leading CDMA Cellular Operator in India.

In conjunction with Hughes Escorts Communication, a subsidiary of Hughes Network Systems, and Eltel Systems, the deployment of Comtech's Data and RF equipment will augment a SCPC VSAT network allowing voice and data connectivity. Aligning the expertise of all three companies will allow for state-of-the-art CDMA satellite technology across India. Comtech's equipment is expected to be delivered by April 2005.

Highlights of products being utilized include Comtech's flagship high performance, bandwidth-efficient CDM-600 and CDM-570L Satellite Modems, as well as various frequency converters and redundancy switches.

The CDM-600 is an advanced, open network satellite modem that supports data rates up to 20 Mbps, an array of modulation techniques, standards and interfaces, plus the industry's widest range of forward error correction options, ensuring optimum performance based on varying network conditions.

The CDM-570L Modem optimizes L-Band satellite communications with its flexible, low cost features including data rates from 2.4 kbps to 5 Mbps, fast acquisition demodulation, second generation Turbo Product Coding and a variety of modulation techniques.

"This award is another example of our reputation as an innovative technology leader for both domestic and international satellite communications users," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.

Hughes Escorts Communications Ltd. (HECL) is a joint venture between Hughes Network Systems (HNS) & Escorts. Hughes Escorts has charted a mission to become a leader in providing turnkey value-added networking solutions for corporate enterprise in India, primarily using the satellite medium.
