The SIRTAP unmanned aerial system is engineered for advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, operating both day and night across land and sea environments. With a range exceeding 2,000 kilometers and an endurance of more than 20 hours, the system is designed to function under extreme conditions, withstanding temperatures from -40C to +50C. In the future, the platform may also integrate attack capabilities.
This development further strengthens GMV's position as a leader in navigation systems for defense applications. The navigation system for SIRTAP leverages GMV's extensive experience, incorporating advances made in previous projects such as the SENDA system for the F-110 frigate and the ISNAV system for the 8x8 vehicle.
The High Performance Remotely Piloted System (SIRTAP) is expected to represent a significant advancement in the tactical unmanned aircraft category. With dual-use capabilities, supporting both civilian and military operations, it offers a broad spectrum of missions tailored to the needs of government and institutional clients.
In addition to the navigation system, GMV will also be responsible for developing the front-view camera used by the remote pilot for taxiing, takeoff, and landing operations.
Manuel Perez, General Manager of Defense and Homeland Security at GMV, noted, "2024 has been a very positive year for GMV in the defense and security field, giving us a growth rate of around 40%, bringing us up to over 500 professionals in this sector. The defense and security field has become an important growth vector for the company, and GMV's participation in the development of SIRTAP demonstrates Airbus's recognition of our firm commitment to quality, a hallmark of GMV's reputation."
Airbus plans to deliver 27 of these drones to the Army and the Air and Space Army, with production taking place in Spain. The first units are anticipated by the first half of 2027. The SIRTAP platform has also attracted international interest, positioning itself as a leading contender in the tactical UAS segment.
