A Planet-Like Companion Growing Up In The Fast Lane
Hilo HI (SPX) Apr 08, 2010
The cliche that youth grow up so fast is about to take on a new twist. This is due to the discovery of a very young planet-like object (with a mass somewhere between 5-10 times that of Jupiter), paired with a low-mass brown dwarf. Earth's orbit tied with climate changes
Santa Barbara, Calif. (UPI) Apr 6, 2010
A U.S. geologist says she's discovered a pattern that connects regular changes in the Earth's orbital cycle to changes in the planet's climate. University of California-Santa Barbara Assistant Professor Lorraine Lisiecki performed her analysis of climate by examining ocean sediment cores taken from 57 locations around the world and linking that climate record to the history of the Earth ... more

Washington (UPI) Apr 7, 2010
Next week, representatives from dozens of countries will meet in Washington to discuss nuclear security. Clearly, proliferation of nuclear weapons to include theft and acquisition by terrorists or unfriendly regimes raise nightmarish scenarios. Fortunately, only two nuclear weapons have ever been used in anger. While the consequences of a nuclear detonation could be catastrophic, the safeguards, the dangerous nature of uranium and plutonium and the engineering complexity of fielding a usable we ... read more
