Paris (AFP) March 24, 2010
Astronomers may have underestimated the tally of galaxies in some parts of the Universe by as much as 90 percent, according to a study reported on Wednesday in Nature, the weekly British science journal. Surveys of the cosmos are based on a signature of ultraviolet light that turns out to be a poor indicator of what's out there, its authors say. In the case of very distant, old galaxies, ... more

Outside View: Worse than enemies
Washington (UPI) Mar 21, 2009
President John F. Kennedy wittily observed that "the only thing worse than being an enemy of the United States was being an ally." Pakistan nuclear ambitions give US leverage
Washington (AFP) March 25, 2010
Pakistan's hopes for civil nuclear cooperation have been a non-starter in Washington, but experts say the United States can use it as a dangling carrot as it seeks influence in Islamabad. The two nations Thursday wrapped up a first-of-a-kind "strategic dialogue," which the United States hopes will show Pakistan's widely anti-American public that it cares about the country beyond seeking help against Islamic extremists.
