Final Space Shuttle Year Begins With Last Night Launch
Washington DC (AFP) Jan 28, 2010
NASA on Wednesday gave the green light for the US Endeavour space shuttle to blast off towards the International Space Station on February 7 carrying six astronauts. Lift-off is set for 04:39 am (0939 GMT) from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral in Florida in what marks the final year of space exploration for the shuttle fleet, which is due to be mothballed at the end of September. Apple chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled a new touchscreen tablet computer on Wednesday dubbed the "iPad," seeking to carve out a niche between the laptop and the smartphone. India plans manned space mission in 2016

India will launch its first manned space mission in 2016 in a bid to match space pioneers such as Russia and the United States, a top official said Wednesday. The government had already approved plans for a human space flight project by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and last year gave the go-ahead for funding of around 2.8 billion dollars.
