The Tesuque Pueblo (pronounced teh-SOO-kay) is a Native American tribal community located in northern New Mexico. Tribal police are routinely required to patrol rural areas that are not covered by traditional cellular, radio, or wireline services.

Tesuque Police Officers plan to use Globalstar phones and data services with Itronix ruggedized mobile laptops to access major law enforcement databases, as well as for backup voice communications where cellular and radio are not available.

"When we were looking for satellite service, we understood that Globalstar was on the leading edge of satellite phones," said Capt. Ortiz.

"I've taken the Globalstar phone out to places where I never get coverage, and it's worked great. I'm especially pleased with how Globalstar sounds in the car. The sound is phenomenal. We've all had those experiences where we've been talking on a cell phone and people say we sound like we're in a tin can. I have to say, Globalstar is a whole lot clearer."

Globalstar's data throughput has also received high marks. As the phones were being evaluated, additional testers reported round-trip response time from inquiry, through the Globalstar system, through a VPN and to the NCIC ranged from 4 to 10 seconds round trip.

Dennis Allen, Senior Vice President of Sales for Globalstar, added, "Globalstar is already helping hundreds of police departments across the United States be more productive while working in areas that are underserved by cellular other wireless services."

Allen continued, "Agencies are also saving a lot of money with affordable Globalstar voice and data services. It really helps meet the need to reduce the bottom line while still delivering exceptional police service from remote areas." Globalstar airtime is as low as 17 cents per minute when purchased in volume.

Installation and implementation of the Globalstar voice and data solution was conducted by systems integrator IS Solutions, LLC of Albuquerque. Tony Grundler, Managing Member, IS Solutions LLC said, "one of the biggest problems we face in states like New Mexico is the vast open areas where there is no conventional communication available.

For those areas, we have a blended system that provides the cellular coverage and automatically switches to Globalstar satellite service when the cellular signal drops. This blended system provides the best of all worlds for communication because the officers in the field are almost never without voice and data communication as a result of the coverage Globalstar provides."

Grundler continued, "We were also very fortunate that Chief Robert Frenier (Chief of the Tesuque Tribal Police) wants the best communication available for his field officers."

"He worked with IS and Globalstar to ensure that the solutions we provided were the latest and best technologies available helping provide the safest work environment possible for his officers. This made our job much easier in developing the blended system."
