Globalstar And WaveCall Enter Into New Agreement For Maritime Product

A Globalstar satellite
Milpitas CA (SPX) Jul 22, 2004
Globalstar announced Wednesday that WaveCall Communications will become the company's preferred fixed maritime satellite product supplier. As a result of this agreement, WaveCall intends to make the industry leading WaveCall 3000 and WaveCall MCM3 fixed maritime units available in all areas served by the Globalstar satellite network.

The WaveCall 3000 product was recently named as the Best New Product of 2004 by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA). It provides voice and data speeds of up to 56Kbps using data compression, with the added ability to interface with permanently installed shipboard systems.

The WaveCall MCM3 uses 3 simultaneously connected channels to provide voice and data speeds of up to 144 kbps using data compression. An RJ45 Ethernet connection also makes the product easy to integrate into networks. Both products support software compression to increase data speeds and are designed and manufactured exclusively for WaveCall by its parent company, Sea Tel.

WaveCall already operates as a major Globalstar Reseller in the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. In these markets the units will continue to be sold through existing WaveCall dealers with service and support provided by WaveCall. In those markets where WaveCall does not operate as a reseller, the company hopes to sell the products via agreements with the individual Globalstar Gateway Operators with service provided by the operators.

Peter Whyte, President of WaveCall commented, "We have been with Globalstar since the beginning and have been instrumental in opening up both the yacht and commercial maritime market in the US and Caribbean. We currently have more than 1500 boats operating with WaveCall equipment."

"This agreement provides us with the opportunity to expand this success to other Globalstar markets and to consolidate WaveCall's position as the leading supplier of purpose marine designed and built Globalstar units."

Dennis Allen, Senior VP of Sales for Globalstar added that "The marine industry has emerged as one of the major targeted market segments where the company offers particular added value to off-shore customers."

"In this market Sea Tel is one of the most respected equipment suppliers and WaveCall is one of our largest customers. We are delighted to be able to expand our relationship and make WaveCall the preferred supplier for world wide Globalstar maritime solutions."
