Orbimage To Distribute City Images Online
Dulles - September 30, 1999 Orbimage will distribute its OrbView Cities high-resolution imagery through the ArcData Online data store of ESRI beginning early this Fall. ArcData Online is a repository of geographic data for Internet users to download content and generate maps on the Web.

Orbimages OrbView Cities archive currently includes one-meter resolution panchromatic aerial imagery from fifteen cities in North America.

ArcData Online contains a comprehensive collection of worldwide geographic information that includes street maps, demographic data such as population density, topographic information such as elevation contours, and environmental data such as hazardous waste sites.

ArcData Online, powered by ESRI Internet mapping technology, was developed by ESRI as a valuable resource of data that can be used by the geographic information systems (GIS) community.

Since its launch at ESRIs Annual User Conference in July 1997, ArcData Online has created tremendous interest from users around the world. Now, with the addition of aerial imagery from Orbimage, ArcData Online will be even more valuable to customers.

Orbimages OrbView Cities currently consists of one-meter panchromatic (black and white) imagery of select North American cities. The cities now available include Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, San Diego, Denver, Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta, Vancouver, Toronto, Phoenix, Newark and the Long Island, New York area.

The number of cities covered will be extended to hundreds of additional urban areas worldwide when Orbimages OrbView-3 and OrbView-4 high-resolution imaging satellites are launched in 2000.

OrbView Cities imagery is fully processed (i.e. orthorectified) to be ready for immediate use in a variety of GIS applications. Applications for OrbView Cities imagery include urban planning for local governments, construction site characterization for civil engineering firms, facilities management for electric utilities and telecommunication companies, and site selection for commercial real estate firms.

According to Mark Pastrone, Orbimage Vice President of Marketing, "We are excited that ESRI will be distributing our OrbView Cities product line.

ESRIs pervasive GIS customer base and innovative online distribution technology will provide thousands of GIS users convenient and fast access to our GIS-ready digital imagery. We were pleased by the positive reaction of ESRIs users to our imagery at the recent ESRI User Conference."

"ESRI is very pleased to include Orbimages imagery in the ArcData Online data distribution program," said Julie Wright, ESRI Data Program Manager. "Orbimages digital imagery will be a valuable source of information for both ESRIs customers as well as GIS users in general."
