MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS
U.S. Special Operations Command orders MUOS-capable radios

U.S. Special Operations Command has given Harris Corporation an order for additional Falcon III radios for its wideband tactical communications network.

The radios to be supplied under the $27 million order are the AN/PRC-117G manpack radio system and the AN/PRC-152A handheld radio system. Both are ready for use with the military's Mobile User Objective System, or MUOS, a next-generation narrowband tactical satellite communications system that will improve ground communications for U.S. forces on the move.

MUOS provides simultaneous voice, video and data capabilities similar to those of smart phones.

"The Harris Falcon III radios enable the SOF (special operations forces) to stay connected wherever the tactical edge happens to be," said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "Our products support SOF-unique capabilities and include a full suite of DOD waveforms to provide interoperability across all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense."

The number of radio systems to be supplied and their delivery schedule was not disclosed.
