Russian Space And Transport Vehicles To Be Equipped With Satellite Nav Sys

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed a directive on equipping space and transport vehicles and means designed to conduct land-surveying and cadastral works with GLONASS or GLONASS/GPS satellite navigation systems.

Satellite navigation systems will be installed on space means (rockets, boosters, space vehicles, landing modules (vehicles); aircraft; sea and river vessels; road and railroad means for transport of passengers, special and hazardous materials; instruments and equipment for land-surveying and cadastral works.

Relevant instructions were issued to the Federal Space Agency. The Transport Ministry, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service, the Defense Ministry, the Federal Agency on Industry, and the operator of the GLONASS - the federal state unitary enterprise (FGUP) Russian Research Institute of Space Instrument-Making.

United Defense Industries recently demonstrated a cost-effective system to improve cannon artillery accuracy with the successful firing of inert M795 155-mm cannon projectiles equipped with a two-directional Course Correcting Fuze (CCF).
