Having realized the strategic and military benefits of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the Russian military will focus on the production of hundreds of new drones over the next 10 years.

The Russian military will get hundreds of new drones by 2025, a United Industrial Corporation representative told RIA Novosti.

There will be different classes of drones, and all of them made in Russia.

The country's defense industry is working together with JSC Vega Radio Engineering Corporation, a Russian company that develops terrestrial, air and space surveillance systems. Currently, the program is also in coordination with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

"By 2025, as a result of implementation of [new] measures, the government will get several hundred modern, Russian-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types. Most of them will be drones used for short ranges, the most needed in [Russian] Armed Forces," the source said.

Last week, the deputy head of Russian Helicopters Company said they started to develop a series of big drones, weighing over 750 kilograms, capable of transporting supplies, reconnaissance equipment and even people.
