Orbital ATK, U.S. Air Force team for composite aerostructure needs
by Richard Tomkins
Washington (UPI) Sep 5, 2017

Orbital ATK and the U.S. Air Force Sustainment Center have partnered to support composite aerostructure needs on existing and new aircraft platforms.

The pact covers composite aerostructure design, manufacturing and inspection work at three Air Force depots and ATK's Aerospace Structures Division, headquartered in Clearfield, Utah.

The three Air Force facilities are the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex at Tinker Air Force Base in Okla; the Ogden Air Logistics Center at Hill Air Force Base, Utah; and the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

The partnership agreement for existing platforms involves maintenance, repair and overhaul.

"It is remarkable that the world's leading centers for advanced composite fabrication can partner long-term to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of all operations involved and ultimately increase the speed at which aircraft are repaired and returned to the field," U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Lee Levy said in a news release.

Added Steve Earl, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK's Aerospace Structures Division: "This partnership is a great opportunity to combine the complementary capabilities in advanced composite materials fabrication, test and inspection held by the U.S. Air Force Sustainment Center and Orbital ATK to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of both operations."
