Northrop Grumman has been contracted to provide LITENING advanced targeting pods for Denmark's F-16 fleet.
In a statement announcing the deal, Northrop Grumman said the Danish air force was its first international customer to purchase the equipment, and that the branch plans to expand the product's use to additional aircraft.
"As a key member of NATO, Denmark supports a wide range of missions. LITENING gives the RDAF powerful capabilities to carry out these missions, whether they call for targeting or intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance," Northrop Grumman's Dr. Robert Fleming said.
The LITENING pod is a multi-sensor targeting system used to help military pilots detect, track and identify targets at long ranges. The system is used both for combat engagements as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
Northrop Grumman says the system can also reduce pilot workload during flight missions.
The pod also has been equipped on U.S.-operated A-10s, B-52s, C-130s and F/A-18s.
