Navy turns to Raytheon for radar upgrades

Raytheon was awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy for air and missile defense radar and other technological upgrades.

The deal, which the Department of Defense announced Wednesday, is valued at more than $19.9 million under the terms of cost-plus-fixed-fee contract.

The agreement between the U.S. Navy and Raytheon enables the Massachusetts-based company to provide "air and missile defense radar, along with next generation jammer spiral upgrades and scalable x-band radar developments," according to a Pentagon news release.

Work will occur in Tewksbury, Mass., and is expected to be complete in June 2020.

More than $1 million will be obligated to Raytheon at time of award from Navy fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

The Defense Department said none of the funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Raytheon has been awarded a contract for additional hardware and software developments for sensor systems on board F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers. The deal, announced Tuesday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $8.8 million and is a modification to a previous award under the terms of a cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract.
