SRA International providing IT support to military commands
Fairfax, Va. (UPI) Jul 1, 2013 - Communications and information technology support is to be provided to the U.S. military's European Command and Africa Command by SRA International.

Also to receive a full spectrum of support under a General Services Administration Federal Acquisition Services award are the commands' associated staff elements and organizations, SRA reported.

"SRA is honored to provide World Class IT Services to these premiere war fighting combatant commands and their associated staff elements and organizations," said SRA's National Security Group Executive Vice President George Batsakis. "As a dedicated mission partner to GSA, USEUCOM, USAFRICOM and 5SC (5th Signal Command), SRA will play a key role in supporting our U.S. national security objectives in this critical region of the world."

Both USEUCOM and USAFRICOM are headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

SRA said that it will provide the commands and their elements with devices, hardware, software, and network IT and communications support services.

The contract period, with options, is five years. The value of the award is $350 million if all options are exercised.

Kuwait has asked the United States for a Foreign Military Sales contract for facilities and construction support for a military hospital.

The request, which has received approval from the State Department, was relayed to Congress by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

"The government of Kuwait has requested a possible sale for the design, construction, procurement of medical, non-medical, and information technology equipment, and operation and maintenance for the Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital," the agency said.

"The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide project management, engineering, planning, design, acquisition, contract administration, construction management, and other technical services for construction of facilities and infrastructure for the hospital."

The entire deal, if approved by Congress, carries a price tag of about $1.7 billion.

This facility to be built would be for the use of service personnel and their families. Services will include ambulatory and inpatient services for tertiary level care, emergency medicine with Level I Trauma certification capability, and clinical support activities.

Construction of the facility would include a new central utilities plant, site utilities, site improvements, covered parking, parking access and roads, and an enclosed pedestrian connector for access to the existing armed forces hospital.

Edgewood, Md. (UPI) Jul 1, 2013 - Field support, supplies and parts for X-ray, advanced X-ray and explosives trace detection machines at U.S. airports is being provided by Smiths Detection.

Smiths said the contract for services to its detectors was issued by Libidos, the prime contractor of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration's Integrated Logistics Support contract.

"We are committed to helping our customers protect travelers across the U.S. and around the world," said Terry Gibson, president of Smiths Detection Inc. "This contract underlines how we deliver on that commitment to long-term value by ensuring our technology meets the operational needs of our customers."

Services by the company will be provided at more than 400 airports in the United States, Smiths Detection said. The value of the four-year award, however, was not disclosed.

New field staff working on this contract will receive technical training at the company's facility in Maryland.

Smiths Detection designs and manufactures products to detect and identify a variety of threats including explosives, chemical agents and bio-hazards. Its detectors are deployed at airports around the world.
