Australian troops to receive Bertin-made chemical detectors
by Richard Tomkins
Washington (UPI) May 1, 2017

Bertin Technologies reports that Australia has chosen its Second Sight MS standoff chemical threat detector to equip its armed forces.

The Second Sight system is a gas-detection system that uses an infrared sensor to detect chemical warfare agents or toxic industrial gases at a range of as much as 3.1 miles.

Bertin, headquartered in France, said the system has been certified by third-party agencies as conforming to the requisite standards for military use.

"The Second Site is comprised of different modules, providing it with unrivaled flexibility of use and versatility as well as compactness, deployability and operability," Romain Verollet, manager in charge of the company's Defense & Security products at Bertin, said in a press release. "Another key advantage of our equipment is its ability to detect unexpected chemical threats in an asymmetric warfare scenario, no matter which is the type of gas used or the location of its dispersal."

Additional details of Australia's product selection were not disclosed.
