Cooler weather in Europe, but heatwave set to return
Paris (AFP) Jul 23, 2006 Much of Europe benefited Sunday from a return to cooler weather but forecasters said the heatwave which has been blamed for more than 20 deaths could be back in the week ahead. In France health warnings were lifted in part of the east of the country but 30 departments out of about 100 were still judged to be at risk and in the southeast and centre east temperatures were still nudging 36 to 37 degrees Celsius (97 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit). Forecasters said the mercury would be rising again on Monday. In Britain, which on Wednesday recorded its hottest July day ever, the weather was cooler, but again expected to heat up at the beginning of the week. Hot weather was forecast for much of northern Europe around the middle of the week. Related Links
